Henri Cartier-Bresson: Photographe

Henri Cartier-Bresson is the « eye of a century», according to Pierre Assouline’s words. In fact, since the 30s, the photographer has never stopped exploring with lucidity the great artistic, politic and social movements of our time. The exhibition Photographer establishes the portrait of an artist who has always chosen anonymity in the action to better capture the instant. Through the 150 photographs presented here is the story of an exceptional vision.

The exhibition Henri Cartier Bresson: Photographe, by the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson, Magnum Photos , and Agenzia Contrasto, and organized by Imago Multimedia - a photo agency and publisher in Nuoro - with the major contribution of Agenzia Regionale Sardegna Promozione in collaboration with Museo MAN present a unique event in Sardinia. The exhibition includes 155 photographs with the intention of creating a comprehensive retrospective of Cartier-Bresson's photographic work.

The exhibition is like a journey through the life of Henri Cartier-Bresson and his being present in every moment, no one like him has condensed years of intense photographic and artistic activities around the world with such great accuracy of observation and deep, conscious and original in every situation. The true documentary and propensity of Henri Cartier-Bresson not to manipulate events, findinhg the profound poetry of everyday life, gestures, faces and events common seemingly unimportant. But that street people - children playing, street vendors, pedestrians - during work or at feast, are the main protagonists of the events of the twentieth century - the end of the Second World War, the death of Gandhi, the best known artists of the moment - every event is an occasion for him to exercise inner awareness, action and a condensed exercise significant moments in life, "decisive moments" that he - and only he - could grasp as he could "put on the same line of sight of the heart, the mind and the eye."

An exhibition that undermines the weaknesses, inconsistencies, the distractions of our eyes even now with the proliferation of photography, an exhibition that pays homage to all of Henri Cartier-Bresson, to drawing and painting which were his first true passion. He was the first to share and articulate with a visual fullness where the relationship and the use of different means of expression is just a game, useful for communicating with his fellows.
