Black Line of Woods

For "Picturing the South" Soth produced a series of twelve large archival pigment prints exploring spiritual and hermetic life in the rural South. The first works by the artist to enter the High's collection, the photographs will premiere in an exhibition at the Museum this summer. "Alec Soth: Black Line of Woods" will be on view at the High from August 8, 2009, through January 3, 2010.

Is bigger better? Is smaller intimate and, therefore, precious? Does a particular size better serve the content of a photograph? The title Economy of Scale is more poetic than literal. Our purpose is to raise questions about the size of the photographic print, as well as present evidence of the impact of economies of scale upon our lives.

Violet Isle - A Portrait Of Cuba

In this exhibition, the two photographers Alex Webb and Rebecca Norris Webb, with their very distinct aesthetics, have collaborated to present a multi-layered portrait of "the violet isle" - a little known name for Cuba inspired by the rich color of its soil. Violet Isle presents an exceptionally insightful and intriguing impression of Cuba, inspired by the country's last fifty years of history and culture.

This exhibition at Bryce Wolkowiz Gallery celebrates the fifty-year career of Bruce Davidson, with representative works from many of the artist's well-known essays. Photographs from Time of Change (1961), Brooklyn Gang (1959), Circus (1958), Subway(1980) as well as recent images will be exhibited. For this exhibition, Davidson has produced large format prints, many for the first time.
